This book was written as a guide to help native non-commissioned officers train new recruits and newly aquired horses into effective calvary formed around the Arab (North-African ) style of riding. It gives a clear description of the riders seat  in the Arab saddle as well as one  of the best descriptions of the mechanics of the jineta style of riding. General Descoins also explains the dynamics of both the Arab saddle and bit, his respect for the best of Arab horsemanship, and understanding of the mechanics of the Arab saddle and bit, make him an uncompromising defender of the Arab harness. This book is a fitting companion to Daumas' Horses of the Sahara, written by another French General three quarters of a century earlier. There are few who will not be better riders after reading this book for General Descoins was a true horseman who made the care and well being of the horse his first priority.
